Registration

« Back to Glossary Index

Registration in the packaging and printing industry refers to the accurate alignment of a container’s components, especially the cap or lid in relation to the body of a tube or jar, to ensure that the printed design is positioned correctly. This is essential when the visual design requires the logo or text to face forward once the cap is applied, or when the artwork wraps around the container in a precise manner. In cases where fill lines or dosage markings are included, proper registration guarantees that these elements match with molded indicators or functional elements on the container.

The registration process typically occurs before printing and filling, and it plays a critical role in achieving a polished and professional look. It may involve orienting the containers using mechanical fixtures, alignment systems, or visual guides to ensure the cap is in the correct position when the container is printed or labeled. Misaligned registration can result in inconsistent or sloppy packaging, which can negatively impact the brand’s presentation and perceived quality.
